The financial implications for regions along the Blackwater of the lack of salmon in the river have been starkly outlined by the chairman of the Blackwater Trust.
Speaking to The Corkman, Mr Edward Hallinan said each salmon caught in the Blackwater was worth up to €2,500 in revenue to the local economy.
This incorporates spending by visitors on the rental of fishing licences and equipment, accommodation, entertainment and visiting tourist attractions….
