The fishermen are back. I’d forgotten all about them until suddenly they reappeared over the past few weeks, pacing along the riverbank with fishing rods in hand. Many are in camouflage gear. Perhaps it puts them in the mood, though it hardly matches the meditative tone traditionally associated with this pastime. Or maybe the fish really can see them. In which case, I think of St Francis of Assisi, returning fish…
