A quick look back at some of our ‘Catch of the week’ winners during 2015:
January…
January saw a smiling Paul Bourke get ‘Catch of the Week’ for his biggest pike of the season when out fishing with Pierre Montjarre.
Lough Derg fishing well – big pike on the feed including a monster of 1.16 metres.
February…
Coarse angler Fintan Brennan won on the river Barrow with the Daingean Match Anglers, he had with a personal best of 50lb 5 oz of dace.

The river Nire saw local angler Des O’Rourke land a 52cm+ trout on a jig head nymph while fishing with Andrew Ryan of Clonanav

Who could forget the massive 39lb 12oz pike caught by Gerard Smyth of Border Fishing Guides . After a great battle Ger eventually got her in the net.

The river Slaney hit the news in May when Waterford angler Brian Hennessey caught and released a cracking 24lb salmon.
Brian hits the 20’s on the Slaney and wins our Catch of the Week.
June…
June saw the first of the blue sharks. Tom Collins, skipper of Loch an Iasc brought angler Evan McGovern out fishing and he landed a fine blue which measured in at 180 fork by 71 girth – just under specimen size.

July…
It was double vision for Carrigaholt skipper Luke Aston when one of his anglers had 2 Six gill sharks of about 900lb each!

Dirk Crauwell joined skipper Mark Gannon in Courtmacsherry where he landed a fine specimen skate with an approx weight of 164 lbs. Dirk had some battle to draw this monster in.

Albacore tuna on fly off the Cork coast caught the attention. Sidney Kennedy was aboard the Silver Dawn with Mike Dennehy.

Wexford guide Sid Jones of Fishing Ireland had some magic results and was very pleased to land a 78 x 40cm bass weighing 12.5lb

Another heavy weight pike when Armagh Angler Stephen McGarvey was the envy of every pike anlger in the country in November when he landed a 32lb 2oz pike.

December…
December the month of Santa, smiles and enthuastic children goes to the Killinarden Angling Initiative in Tallaght who battled wet, freezing, wild and miserable weather to catch their fish in Athy. We will see lots more from this progressive club !
