Angling guide and journalist Mick Flanagan reports:

Lough Ree is really all over the shop with all the recent rainfall, and it produced a few lovely pike last weekend. I was on it Saturday with pal Marty Smith but we could only manage a small pike on the troll.J.J. my younger brother had a bit more luck with pals SGT John McAlster DFTC in the Curragh Co. Kildare and Mullingar Garda Ray Lynch. The lads had only a few fish, but John boated a pike on the 12lbs mark. Local piker Barry Darby and pal Des Howell had a few super pike on Sunday on the troll, and the best fish was up on the 20lbs mark. Hopefully all going well I will get back on Ree in the coming days. It’s quite chilly so wrap up well if heading out on this fantastic fishery.
