Greg Latour of Tir na Spideog reports on the pike fishing on Lough Allua…

24 November: The weather has finally settled a bit, and the guiding trips at the weekend paid off for my guests . While we caught 3 pike on the fly on sunday, the biggest pike weighing 20 lb and measuring well over 1 meter was caught on Saturday on a dead perch in about 15 feet of water.

Most Lough Allua pike are caught in 15 to 20 feet of water as water temperatures are falling back to 7 degrees .
My German guests are planning to come back in summer, as they want to try some blue shark fishing as well as the great pike fishing to be had on Lough Allua.

Tir na Spideoga Fishing Lodge is situated on the shores of Lough Allua, about 5km from Inchigeelagh Village, overlooking a narrow but long water system, also called the ‘ Inchigeelagh lakes’. Lough Allua ranks amongst the top pike fishing waters of Ireland, regularly producing pike of 20 and 30 lbs. and still it is one of the least known pike venues on the island .

Boats and engines including petrol can be rented at €35 a day and no permit is required
