Garrett O’Reilly reports on the Buddy Martin Cup pike competition fished at Ballyhoe recently…

The very first Memorial Buddy Martin Cup was held recently by the Ardee Pike Anglers on 2 of the club’s waters including Ballyhoe 1 & 2 and the stretch of river between the two lakes. This was only recently cleared of overhanging and submerged trees by the committee. It was a good turn out considering the weather, a mixture of wintry showers and a very strong bitter wind which saw a few anglers running for cover at times.

39 anglers took part and the cup was hotly contested from start to finish with over 150 pike being landed. The heaviest pike on the day was 12lb 12oz.

More pike reports from the area…#

Rahans has seen plenty of pike caught with one angler losing a big twenty at the net the other day. He still managed other pike to double figures as did most lads who fished it recently.

Even Descart threw up a few pike as did both the Ballyhoe lakes for many visiting anglers and with the outlook for more good weather the lakes will improve daily now as the waters warm. More pike photos: http://www.ballyhoelake.com/news/fishing-updates-around-the-lakes/pike
