Billy Downes, Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association, reports on the fishing on the Laune…
As of Monday 22nd June Laune water level low but still fishable by all methods. News of fish over the weekend was scarce and the angling effort was low which was indicative of the chances members felt there was in meeting a fish.

There were a few fish met early in the week and a good fish of 10 lbs landed at Johnston’s high bank. There were a few fish were met and lost yesterday but all in all not a lot to show.
There were a few fish caught on Beat 3 for the week but the water is a bit low there now but still the best chance and trout fishing in the evenings should be good in the fine weather of the coming week.
No fish were reported from beats 1 or 2, the Killarney lakes, Lough Leane or the Flesk.
Reminder: Start times on Beat 3 is 8am and not before that. Reminder to visitors trout fishing on all Laune Anglers waters and on Beat 3 is by fly only on single handed rods with trout flies. (No worms allowed for trout fishing)
Prospects: Fair now but will be good when we get a rise of 9 inches to a foot, there are fish building up in the system. The best chance of a fish is from Saturday to Tuesday while the commercial nets are not in operation and a few fish can run the river.
Permits for Laune Anglers waters from now to the end of July only €25 per day.
