Last Wednesday, 27 May, Thomas Long took hisĀ son Joseph, age 14, fishing to the River Barrow at St Mullins, Co. Carlow. Ā The father and son teamĀ met up with another two friends at around 1230 to fish the incoming tide.
After onlyĀ ten minutes or so he landed a 2.7lb shad. In total Thomas and JosephĀ hadĀ 4 fish, but Joseph’s were better than his father’s 0.75lb shads. All the fish caught were returned to theĀ river.
Thomas tells us that these were Joseph’sĀ first shad and thatĀ he is hooked on fishing now.
