Hamish Currie reports on a couple of Red Letter Days at Red Bay…
Everybody in the angling sector has had or will have what I call a Red Letter Day. Well we had 2 of them recently, boating an amazing 19 common skate in just 2 days fishing. Not only did we catch a huge haul of skate but we also had a pile of congers, spurdogs and bullhuss.
The best fish went to Chris McKergan from Portrush with a stunning fish of 185lbs. About 2 hours before he had boated one of 131lbs and was a tired boy at the end of the day!
All these fish were taken from a deep water mark 15kn south of Red Bay using a variety of baits which included mackerel, herring, dogfish, spurdogs and squid. At one time we were hooked into 4 skate at the same time. This was amazing as that’s a first for m. We have done 3 at a time but 4 just blew me away.
