Lindsey Clarke reports from LOUGH MELVIN – Monday 24th to Sunday 30th August 2015.

Salmon angling effort on Lough Melvin was negligible this week but the trout fishing for Sonaghan was excellent again. There were decent catches of Sonaghan reported again this week. On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Garrison & Lough Melvin Anglers Association held their 36th Lough Melvin Open Trout Championships. This is a 4 day competition with the first 3 days being qualifying days for the final which is held on Sunday. The competition was well attended with 290 rods competing. The competition was a great success with Melvin fishing well and producing decent catches each day. Congratulations go to Laurence Gibb and Fechin McMorrow jnr, who were the overall 2015 winners with 8 trout caught. In 2nd place were Greg White and Matt Higgins also with 8 trout and in third place were Dominic Kerrigan and Geoffrey Hylands with 7 trout caught.
