Angling Guide and journalist Mick Flanagan reports:

Our good pal Brian Conlon of Wild Total Outdoors on friars Mill Road had a cracking day on Lene last week. Brian was joined by his Fiancé Ann Ayres.  Ann was in the thick of the action on Lene. Their best rainbow rattled the scales at 4lbs 5oz and was caught on a 9cm Savage Gear Lowrider lure. Another angler having a ball with the Lene Rainbows was Dr Ken Whelan who has put pen to paper over the years on angling here in Ireland. This includes the famous The Angler In Ireland, which covers game, coarse and sea angling. This can all be checked on http://www.kenwhelan.info/blog .Ken had some super rainbow trout pushing 7lbs in weight on perch-fry, and it makes very interesting reading on his blog. If you are planning a trip to Lene this August Bank Holiday weekend, drop into Brian in Wild Total Outdoors and he will have all the Perch Fry lures, and hard bait lures you need to catch your prized fish. Brian can be contacted on 044-93-01133.

LARRY MULLIGAN CUP ON LENE.

The Larry Mulligan Cup was fished on Lough Lene last Sunday July 26th and it proved a huge success with some cracking trout coming on line. If you remember back to last Sunday we had some savage rain, but it did not deter the Lene members from supporting this popular fly-fishing competition. Aidan Heffernan produced a super fish of 2.74kg to take top rod, in second place was Gerry Heaslip 2.18lbs, 3rd John Brennan 2.10kgs, 4th Niall Oakes2.00kg, and 5th Donal Rafferty 1.92kgs. Presentation took place at Fagan Point and Lene Chairman thanked all who fished and presented Aidan with the Larry Mulligan Cup pictured this week in Angling Focus. Next competition on Lene is the Michael Healy Cup, and its and evening fly-fishing competition. Fishing 7pm-11pm.More on this next week.
