Frank Reilly reports that the break in the weather over the Easter weekend saw an improvement in the number of anglers on Lough Corrib…
The angling returns were mixed with the lower lake producing the better fishing. Mike Keady and Tom Doc Sullivan had a great day on Saturday landing 8 trout with Tom landing a great fish at 8lbs.

Larry Mc Carthy from Corrib Angling Services www.corribangling.com fished for a few hours on Thursday evening on dry duckfly and landed 6 trout from 2lbs to 3.5lbs. Jeremey Herreman, Clydagh fished for 4 days with Larry Mc Carthy and Landed 14 trout from 2lbs to 3.5lbs on buzzers and dry’s. Jerr Linehan, Cork, staying with Larry Mc Carthy hooked 2 trout over the weekend the first fish weighed 4.5lbs and the second fish weighed 6.25lbs.

Oisin Reilly, Glencorrib landed a lovely trout of 4lbs on buzzers with his dad Frank on Saturday totalling 4 trout for the day. Richard Molloy from Molloy boat hire Corr Na Mona reported Donald Atkinson from Offaly Landed 2 trout on duck fly paterens in the Dooras area.
The I.F.I. annual wetfly competition was held on Friday in Oughterard with 16 anglers landing 11 trout. 1st was John Kelly, Oughterard with 2 trout at 3.12lbs. 2nd was James Quinn, Loughrea with 3 trout at 3.0lbs and 3rd was Tony Mc Quinn, Oughterard with 1 trout at 2.2lbs. Heaviest trout went to John Hopkins, Cong with a trout at 1.87lbs.
Cong anglers held their Easter competition on Sunday in Lisloughery, Cong with 16 anglers landing 6 trout. 1st was Thomas Ryan with 1 trout at 3lb 10 ozs. 2nd was Declan Gibbons with 2 trout at 3lbs 2ozs and 3 was Robert Holan with 1 trout at 2lbs 13ozs.
Ennis anglers also held there Easter competition in Greenfields on Sunday with 12 anglers landing 6 trout. 1st was Brian Mc Inerney, with 3 trout at 7.5lbs 2nd was Tommie O Loughlin with 2 trout at 3.5lbs and 3rd was Jer Kenny with 1 trout 1.6lbs.
