Guide Rob Love goes fishing with footballer Aaron Hughes and reports:

Getting away from it all was certainly the reason why angler – Aaron Hughes came out for an evening’s fishing on the Rye Water at Carton House last week.  Extremely modest about his footballing ability (he has over 450 Premier League appearances to his credit – 2nd only to Ryan Giggs) he is even more so about his fly fishing. While some might shy away from technical stretches of water where stealth and a delicate cast are a must Aaron was in his element releasing lots of great fighting, small wild browns which took a shine to a little spinner pattern. Actually Aaron enjoyed it so much that I suspect a deciding factor on which club he plays for next will be if it has a little trout stream running by the training pitches!

Continuing on the deciding factor theme Lisa Gytri’s choice of college was based primarily on nearby fly fishing and so she studied in Montana. It really showed as I guided for her in the last few days, a super American angler who also relished the challenges of fishing the Rye Water.
