Many trout anglers do be twisting and turning a lot over the winter months waiting for the new season to kick off. Across the country many rainbow trout fisheries are open all year round, and we are lucky to have a cracking spot right here in Westmeath. Derrymore Springs out near Killucan is open for rainbow trout fishing as we put pen to paper, and you will enjoy a few hours trying to catch these colorful fish. There is ample space for bank fishing, and also a huge fleet of Kayaks, which can be used to access spots not reachable from the bank.

Its an ideal venue to introduce young anglers to the sport of fishing, and even dough its a bit cold this time of year if you wrap up well, and bring the flash of hot water for a Cuppa you will have some sport.
