Congratulations to ITFFA Team Ireland, Mgr Seamus O Neill, Captain Peter M Doherty, Kevin Dunne, Arden Pollock, Bert Mulhall, Darius Simkus and Eugene Nolan on a brilliant win in the ITFFA Rivers Home International fished on the North Kildare Trout & Salmon Anglers Association Club Waters.
Peter Doherty captain of the Irish Team Led the way and finished the day top Irish & overall rod on the day with a perfect score of 4 place points, winning the ‘Moc Morgan’ trophy. This was a real team effort which was reflected in Ireland on taking gold on the day with some super performances, Ireland accumulated 43 place points to England 2nd with 49, Wales 3rd with 50 & Scotland 4th with 67.
218 fish 20cm and over were recorded on the day with the biggest fish caught by Rob Bending of Wales with a fish of 39.5cms. A special thanks to North Kildare Trout & Salmon Anglers Association & in particular John Higgins & the rest of the committee on a superbly run competition.
The Liffey is low at the moment with small Olives hatching during the day and some Black Smut and Terrestrials on the water. Most anglers fished dry or dry dropper or French nymphing. Top rod Peter Doherty had 90 per cent of his fish on the dry dropper, Olive nymph patterns working the best. Evening hatches of Blue Winged Olives are OK but could be better with Sedges late into the night
The Irish team would like to thank all the stewards and controllers for their help on the day and their Manin sponsor Donal Monahan Builders Newbridge and all their other sponsors.
