Mick Flanagan reports on a recent trip to Castle Leslie…

Castle Leslie
A foggy morning view of Castle Leslie from the lake

It’s nice to check out new waters, and get the chance to fish some priceless lakes. Last week I teamed up with Lough Lene club member Stuart Killeen who we featured some weeks back after his win in the Chairman’s end of season competition on Lene. Stuart loves his fishing be it game or coarse fish and we had a lovely day up in Castle Leslie Estate, catching some lively pike.

Not a monster, but one of 12 fish landed

We had no Leslie Monsters, but boated 12 pike, and lost quite a few. It’s a beautiful part of Ireland and all can be checked on www.castleleslie.com. I believe a few of our pike anglers in Rochfortbridge have fished Castle Leslie quite often. It does produce some huge pike, and held the Irish record some years back. The Irish lake pike record is 42lbs 12 oz and was caught in the Whitelake here in North Westmeath.
