33 anglers turned out for the Daingean Match Anglers open on 03 January on the Grand Canal in and around Daingean. The canal was pulling through just right for three hours of the match with most of the fish caught during this time. All the weights were made up of roach with around 100 fish scoring the winning weights.
Congratulations to Damien Maddock who drew the end peg on the Rowing Course where the colour was just perfect for roach and he took over 100 fish for his winning weight 6lb 12oz. Pat Bartley, also on the same section, had 70 roach and a hybrid for 2nd place and 5lb 6oz. Fint Brennan, again on an end peg, of the Town stretch took 90 small roach for 3rd place with 5lb 4oz.
Section winners were:
- Peter Nolan 4lb 13oz
- Mick O’Connor 4lb 4oz
- Shane Kavanagh 4lb 7oz
- Jeff Morrisson 4lb 8oz
- Alin Alphidean 3lb 10oz
The Daingean Match Anglers tell us the day started with a super brekkie served at Castle Barna followed by 4.5 hrs of fishing. It was an enjoyable sunny day with happy anglers all catching. After there were prizes and sandwiches back at the club where a draw for Cancer Research took place. €46 euros was raised towards funds that we will add to throughout the year and the lucky winners were Julian Kendrick, Mick Carter, Enda Hickey and Bill Cassidy.
