On Monday 25 students from St Mel’s College in Longford were out on the banks of the River Shannon at Lanesborough. The school was making good use of the Lanesborough Angling Hub while giving the lads a chance to have a cast and maybe catch a fish. By the end of the day a good mix of pike, perch, roach, bream and rudd had been landed by the boys, who reported that the stretch was packed with fish.

St Mels is unique amongst Irish secondary schools in having a student’s angling club – St. Mel’s Fishing Club. Hub coach Liam Sweeney was supported by and the lads from the Camlin Angling club, and of course, Mr Galvin from the school. The boys were hoping this could be part of every Monday afternoon’s schedule…

Liam will be taking another 12 pupils for coaching during the forthcoming festival on Sunday October 9th at 1pm. To book in ring Liam at (085) 169 8032
