NCFFI report:
BSI Sensas AC are the proud holders of the Bobby Smither’s Cup and the NCFFI Club Champions of 2016. Two Sensas Ireland teams represented the club in this weekend’s Club Championships which took place on the Grand Canal at Daingean. The two day match also serves to select the team to represent Ireland at the World Club Championships and is therefore fished to FIPS-ed rules.
The Leinster based club sponsored by Sensas Ireland entered the challenge presenting two teams, Green & Black fishing against Kingfisher AC, the Tubertini Match Club and Fermoy AC the current holders of the title who travelled to Italy to represent Ireland earlier this year. The Green team members Damien Maddock, Pat Bartley, Conor Browne, Fint Brennan and Matt Kemmy were victorious.
Gavin Walsh, team manager and sponsor who fielded the teams who would take first and second positions knew it was going to be a tough match with end pegs almost guaranteed to be section winners. And he was proved right with both end pegs winning A and E sections both days. The teams plan consisted of feeding one ball of ground bait the size of a golf ball with a pinch of pinkies and caster with chopped red worm fed on two lines. Hemp was fed at 13m looking for the better quality fish. This worked on Saturday when there was a wind blowing up the canal but not in the flat calm conditions of Sunday. Local knowledge prevailed as the water appeared coloured when in fact this was just the boggy canal bottom and the winning anglers fished 3 foot of line between the pole and float to prevent spooking the fish.
Team Results
Sensas Green 19 points
Sensas Black 26 points
Tubertini MC 32 points
Kingfisher AC 36 points
Fermoy AC 38 points
BSI Sensas club was originally formed by Bobby Smithers who sadly passed away in 2008. The larger than life Bobby, Ireland only gold medalist in coarse angling created the club which is still run in his honour today and therefore brings with is a special meaning for this year’s winners.
The NCFFI congtratulates the winners and all those who took part, with thanks to the hosts BSI Sensas AC and the Castle Barna Golf Club.
