National Heritage Week Ireland takes place from 20 – 28 August 2016
Discover the past. Build the future.
Each year many national and hundreds of local community organisations participate by organising events throughout Ireland. Many of the events that take place during the week are free and the programme highlights the abundance of great work that is carried out in all communities in Ireland to preserve and promote our natural, built and cultural heritage.
Here are a list of events which might interest those of us who enjoy our local rivers and waters:
Biodiversity Garden Workshop
Discovering Biodiversity Garden Workshop:
Global Action Plan are hosting a FREE family workshop unearthing all of the living things that call our community garden home – with games, planting activities and a bug hunt!
Thursday 25th August , 13:00 PM to 15:00 PM in the Virgin Mary Community Garden, Shangan Rd, Ballymun, Dublin 9.
This outdoor workshop is free and places will be limited, so booking is required. Get in contact with Sharon or one of the GAP team to reserve places.

Major Bridges across the Shannon, Brosna, Grand Canal
This Saturday 20th August James Scully will lead a trip to look at some of the major bridges in West Offaly which cross the Shannon, Brosna, Grand Canal and old railways. Packed lunch and strong footwear and an element of fitness essential. €15.00 for bus. Leaving Tullamore, Bury Quay 9.45am, return 6.30pm. Book with [email protected]. The Great Dodder Weir
