Team Ukraine took the title at the 9th World Championship Predator Boat Fishing Lures held recently at Lough Ree, Lanesborough/Ballyleague.
The competition was a great success although the unexpected flat calm conditions meant the Lough didn’t produce the fish in numbers and size as expected.
Team Romania performed well with a catch of 35 Pike on the first day but the skills of the World Class Team Ukraine on the second day of the competition was enough for them to take the title. Meanwhile, Team Ireland finished in 10th place with the largest fish caught by the Italians, registering 102cm in length.

The full results including the number of fish caught can be found at www.ncffi.ie/wbc16.
Inland Fisheries Ireland supported the event which saw world class lure anglers enjoy the fishing at Lough Ree. Local Inland Fisheries Ireland Officers set up a biosecurity station at Ballyleague on the morning of the competition. Two boats were also provided for the weekend to lead out the boats from Ballyleague and to perform general patrols with a final biosecurity check conducted on the Sunday evening after the event.
