The Munster Blackwater saw its salmon fishing pick up a gear or two in the last few days…

27 April: A sea-liced 7 pounder was caught at Ballyduff Bridge this morning and the fishery also reported two other fish lost.

29 April: A Cracking fish landed today by Fortwilliam guide Chris Coady. Chris had an afternoon off and went to the Glenmore beat and was rewarded with this fish of 13lbs. Another fish was lost on the same beat by a syndicate member.

30 April: There was another cracker of a salmon at 12lbs from the upstream beat (Magners) of the Ballyduff Bridge Fishery. They are seeing a lot of fish running through the shallows on their lower beats over the past few days. At Fortwilliam David Evans Bevan just had a fish of 9lbs off the Glenmore beat.

01 May: Fortwilliam had a great start to the month of May with 3 fish landed before lunchtime. A salmon of about 8lbs was released on the Glenmore beat. Another of 2 grilse of about 5lbs were also caught, one released. A lot of fish were seen running this morning so fishing on the Blackwater must be improving.

At Glenda Powell’s Blackwater Salmon Fishery, Italian angler Marion Corona, on a fishing holiday here for his 80th birthday had a beautiful salmon for 2 days of fishing. Once again a lot of fish were seen the running the river.

02 May: There was another 10lb salmon from Ballyduff Bridge.

Glenda Powell tells us the river is now 0.46 at the gauge on Ballyduff Bridge, the water temperature is 9C and has been dropping nicely for the last week. The river is clear and the conditions are suitable for all methods. Glenda’s Blackwater Salmon Fishery has had 5 salmon in the last 10 days and there have been several fish lost on their beats during this period.

Go Fishing…

Ballyduff Bridge Salmon Fishery

Ballyduff Bridge fisheries control a number of beats of the Munster Blackwater. The Ballyduff Bridge beat is almost a mile long offering a huge variety of water and is particularly suited to fly fishing. Upstream near the village of Ballyhooley (a few miles outside the town of Fermoy, Cork) we have two beats. The Ballincurrig Beat is one of the most beautiful locations along the river and has an excellent piece of fly water flowing into a deep pool. Just downstream on the opposite bank we have a short but productive beat, called Magners. This beat fishes also well in high water.

Blackwater Salmon Fishery

Blackwater Salmon Fishery has 3 beats downstream of the weir and 2 upstream of the weir. Blackwater Salmon Fishery offers fishing on approximately 5 miles of the river Blackwater. The fishing is spread throughout the middle section of the river to offer good sport throughout the fishing season. Due to the location of the beats, fishing can still usually be offered in low or high water.
