Guide Vincent Appleby takes us through the first week of the season on Lough Currane…
17/01/2016 : Its great to be back on the No Spin No Fly’s just Facts Zone and the 2016 Rising of the Salmon and a Very Happy New Year to you all and tight lines, as Ireland celebrates the 1916 Easter Rising, we anglers hopefully will be celebrating 2016 rising of the Salmon, but sadly today was a wash out with rain all day, with a strong SE wind blowing and all Salmon stations were at a standstill. All I can say is James Connelly the Irish Rebel wouldn’t have been amused with the Lough Currane performance, but at least he would have heard a few shots being fired at the odd woodcock and Snipe so on that note we head down stream to the World famous Butler Pool and at www.watervillegolflinks.ie and Local Gillie Mr. Michael O’Dwyer and his client, they did have one rod bender but alas they lost the Battle. That is all the action of the day as my Noble Anglers headed for the Lobster Bar for the traditional Bacon and cabbage and a good dinner was had by all.

18/01/2016: Breaking News, the First Salmon caught on the troll and the first caught in the whole of Ireland in 2016 was caught by renowned Local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com his Salmon weighed in at 10 lbs. and as one local man said that’s great news for the Waterville Fishery and what makes it more special, it’s the first in Ireland. Weather conditions overcast and calm.

This evening Mr. Neil O’Shea with his good wife Patsy and all the O’Shea family headed for the Jolly Swagman, Waterville and Mr. Neil O’Shea was presented with the Paddy Carey Memorial Cup by the Landlord of the Jolly Swagman Mr. Damian Duff and fair play to Local Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea because he has made History today by catching the first Salmon on the Waterville Fishery and the first Salmon to be caught in the whole of Ireland in 2016 which his record for the Waterville fishery which can’t be broken, it can only be repeated.

19/01/2016: Lough Currane was flat calm and overcast. There were just a few boats out working the North Shore and the only bit of action was in the Kelt department and a total of two kelts were caught by Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com and for the rest of the Star Wars, Manipulating their Galactic lures, they failed miserably in their duties.

20/01/2016: Again Lough Currane was at a standstill and for good reason, there was a strong SE wind blowing across the Lake, so at least my Noble anglers had a good excuse to head for the high stool and reminisce, if only I had caught the first in 2016. Wind as already stated with light rain for most of the afternoon.
21/01/2016: Sadly the weather is taking all the head lines today, with a strong Southerly cutting across the lake with light misty rain all day. Just for the record one could have fished the South Side but I didn’t get any reports from any manipulators.
That is your ration for the week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
