Luke Aston of the Clare Dragoon and Sean Maguire of Lady Gwen reports on the charter boat fishing off the clare coast…

01 June: Luke Aston’s crew started the day with plenty Mackerel at the loop. Then it only got better as they tried for a tope for the first time this year. There were plenty of them about and they soon had 8 in the boat for a short enough session. All the tope were male and the best was 157cm long and around the 40lb mark.

02 June: Still a good sign of mackerel today and the Pollack seem to be moving inshore a bit says Luke Aston. They had a conger session north of the Loop. It was a bit slow but this fine conger was among the catch. In the estuary on the Huss marks they had no luck with just the Doggies to keep them company.
Sean Maguire says his anglers had a very enjoyable evening trip to the Loop. They got lots of mackerel, coalies and some fine pollock.

03 June: Fishing was good in the early morning on Lady Gwen, but slowed a bit in the afternoon. All the same, even when it was slow they still were still getting pollock and some fine big mackerel… and great sunshine.
04 June: The good weather continues off the Clare coast and it’s just a joy to be on the water according to Luke. Fishing is easy and plenty fish about. Mackerel seem to be all over the ground now and there is a good mix of whitefish with plenty Haddock coming onto the ground.
05 June: Sea conditions are still perfect which is good because the tides are very big and fast. Luke reports the fishing is very good with lots of species. Stage of tide does make a difference though with the fishing changing a lot.

06 June: As Luke comes to the end of a busy 10 days the forecast is giving some bit of a change but it was still a lovely day on the sea. Just north of the Loop the marks were full of small Coalfish with fine mackerel and Pollack through them. Further north they had some nice fish including a double figure Cod and a 15lb Bull Huss.
Go fishing…
