Angling guide Eamonn Conway reports that he was out and about recently doing a spot of early season river trout fishing. According to Eamonn, the rivers in the north east are fishing ok at the minute and that the river levels had dropped off well from their winter levels. However, recent rain has put the Dee, Fane and Glyde up again. The fly life is starting to make an appearance on the rivers because of the settled weather we were having.
Eamonn fished a small stream in Co Monaghan and unfortunately was unable to tempt trout to the top with dry flies. As usual the trout were feeding well on the nymphs fished upstream and they also worked well fished downstream like wet flies. Hopefully it won’t be long before the trout will become more active on the top and we will get a bit of dry fly action in the coming weeks.
