Lindsey Clarke reports from LOUGH MELVIN – Monday 27th June to Sunday 3rd July 2016
The fishing on Melvin remained very variable over the week. Rods reported good trout fishing on some days with other days seeing the trout very dour and hard to stir! In truth, the lough was not particularly busy with, on average, only 3 boats out per day. The Garrison Lough Melvin Anglers held the Gerry Gallagher Cup competition on Sunday and some boats reported good fishing with 8 trout winning the cup followed by a catch of 7 trout for the 2nd and 3rd placed boats. I am awaiting details of anglers etc. There was a number of grilse caught trolling though salmon angling effort was very light. There are large numbers of fresh grilse in the lough at present.
