Last week 36 anglers headed to Fermoy in County Cork to fish the 3-day Spring Festival on the River Blackwater run by Fermoy CAA, one of Ireland’s longest running coarse angling associations. It was hard fishing this year with the river almost in drought conditions, gin clear water and very low. But along came the rain on Monday and the river quickly rose 7 inches and helped the fishing for the rest of the week.

Congratulations to Dave Miles from Leeds on his win with 29lbs 12oz. Dave has been fishing festivals on the Blackwater for more than 25 years and this is his first time winning – well done! Ambitious now, Dave wants to return to make it the double for the October Festival. In second place was Carlow angler Ollie Doyle 25lbs 4oz and in 3rd Geoff Scollick also from Leeds with 24lbs 6oz
Day one winner was Neil Richards, Swindon with 12lb, second was Geoff Scollick, Leeds with 10lb 6ozs and third was Andy Love, London with 9lb 8ozs.
Day two winner was Dave Miles, Leeds with 12lb 8ozs, second was Ollie Doyle with 11lb 10ozs and third was Steve Skelton with 11lb 6ozs.
Day three winner was Dave Miles, Leeds with 9lb 6ozs, second was Ollie Doyle with 8lb 8ozs and third was Eddie McEvoy Darlington with 8lb 4ozs.

Fermoy CAA would like to thank all the anglers who continue to support the festivals. Thanks to the land and fishery owners here in Fermoy and to Chris (Kipper) O’Donovan who took some anglers to their pegs on the wheelie boat.
