Stan Ryan from ARDMORE SEA ANGLING CLUB reports on two great wins for the Frahers in the Senior and Junior Master Shore Anglers…
Liam and son Mochara Fraher became the Senior and Junior Master Anglers for Ardmore SAC. Both fished consistently in the 8 competitions throughout the year. Up to the last competition it was neck and neck between Liam and Brian Mansfield who is one of the top anglers in Ireland. Mochara showed his talent by landing more bass than most of the senior anglers…some achievement for such a young lad.
In the boat competitions Stan Ryan beat Brendan O’ Dwyer by 1 point to become Master Boat Angler. Unfortunately, John Cronin was unable to fish this season. No doubt this might have changed the overall result. John of course is renowned for his skills both nationally and internationally and is always a force to be reckoned with.
The club has had a great year. As an example the last competition, on the 10th December had ten anglers fishing in Ardmore. Seven different species were landed : bass, whiting, coalfish, conger, rockling, cod and a magnificent seatrout. Every angler caught several fish. All bass were returned and the seatrout lived to fight another day.
Boat angling was at times spectacular. In one competition 576 fish were landed by 10 anglers. Species included cod, whiting, coalfish, ling, ballan wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, pouting, poor cod, dogfish and more. This is exceptional fishing.
There is no doubt that the numbers and range of fish in this area would be hard to find elsewhere.
