Donal Kennedy reports
After some really bad weather hitting Killala Bay in recent weeks, fishing finally commenced last weekend. Vast amounts of flood water had entered the bay over the last fortnight impacting negatively on angling conditions.
A party of anglers from Leitrim set out on Sunday the 24th of September from Killala Harbour for a day’s fishing on the Bay. Well out in the bay the first drift was over rocky ground which produced an array of species including cod, ling, pollack, pouting, ballan wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, coalfish, scad and some lesser spotted dogfish. Just as well the skipper came well prepared with fresh frozen bait because mackerel were very scarce that day. The day continued with much of the same and the party enjoyed the fine weather and calm seas to make it a very pleasant day. All returned safely to harbour well pleased with their outing.
