Waterford Fly Fishing Club held its Carrigavantry Cup and Nadine Caner Battle fundraiser on Saturday. The lake fished really well despite the cold conditions and northerly winds, and some big catches were recorded. In total there were 23 anglers competing for the top spot and between them they caught 176 trout. The biggest fish landed on the day was a brown of 57cm. It is a testament to these anglers care and attention to correct Catch and Release methods that there were no casualties amongst the fish.
- 1st Mark Rogan 18 fish for 804cm
- 2nd Niall O Neill 14 fish for 617cm
- 3rd Hubert Smith 14 fish 590cm
The club thanked all competitors for making the effort to get to Waterford. Anglers travelled from Northern Ireland, Louth, Dublin, Wicklow, Westmeath,Wexford, Laois, Clare, Cork and of course Waterford. Apart from being vital to holding a competition they all contributed to Nadines Cancer Battle which helped make the competition such a success.

FLY FISHING ON KNOCKADERRY CARRIGAVANTRY BALLYSCANLON
Carrigavantry – This 30 acre reservoir is hidden in the hills behind Tramore. The lake can be fished from the dam and road and the rest of the lake shore needs waders. The deepest part is the island at 10 feet.Prolific hatches of lake olives and damsels occur. Stocking is with both browns and rainbows. You could loose your catch here to a 20lb Pike!
Knockaderry – The deepest part of the lake is 24 feet at the dam tower, the average depth is 6ft and this results in good weed growth. Trout fatten fast in this fertile water on caddis, snails and stickle backs, while lake olives,buzzers sedges and damsels bring on prolific rises. This 80 acre reservoir is a traditional top of the water drift fishery.
New members are welcome and an active programme of fly tuition is pursued to encourage beginners and get our youth out into the countryside.
