Ronan Cusack reports that unseasonal weather this week resulted in a mixed report from Lough Mask, with the best of the fishing on calmer days to buzzer and olive patterns in sheltered bays.

Tom Doc Sullivan guided two UK anglers over the weekend and they had 11 trout (best fish 5lbs, all released) for 3 days, on a mixture of buzzer and olives. Tom said they concentrated their fishing mainly on the southern end of the lake as there were plenty of olives hatching each day to keep trout interested. Noel Fay from Kildare fished with Billy Graham from Fermanagh for 2 days last weekend and they had 9 trout over the 13” limit plus several undersize, mainly on wet flies (best fish 3lbs). Kevin Sheridan and Ted Wherry fished together on Sunday and they had 2 fish for the day (best fish 1.75lbs). Ronan Cusack and Kevin Egan, Ballinrobe also fished together on Sunday last and they had 4 (best fish 3lbs, all released)

14 year old Eliot Thievenaz caught a trout to remember last Wednesday while fishing for a half day on Mask with Philip Comber from the Old Stone Barn. He landed and released a beautiful trout estimated at 8lbs on a Tasmanian Devil off the Ballykyne Rocks.

There has been a few reports of Mayfly on some of the warmer days, so hopefully the best is yet to come…
