Inniscarra reports on the Vintners Cup…

Vintners Cup Day 1 – 30 August

Water levels are still high but the fishing was very consistent on the Greenway for Day 1 of the Vintners Cup.
Fish were caught on the pole and the feeder and many of the weights consisted of small skimmers which have made an appearance this year.

Day 3 – September 1

A bright sunny day with a very light breeze greeted competitors from the UK, Holland and Ireland on Day 3 of the Vintners Cup.

With a 100% payout there were plenty of prizes to fish for on the final day. There was also a free weeks accommodation in 2018 donated by O’Callaghans Bar & Guest House for one lucky angler.

After a superb 3 days the overall winner was Mark Jackson from Rotherham with a 3 day total of 35.940kg.
Mark had top weight on each of the 3 days so fully deserved his victory.
Dutch visitor William v.d. Helm also had a great 3 days with two seconds and a third to put him in second place overall.

We must give a mention to Josh Smith who recently represented England in the World Youth Champs on the lake. He liked it so much that he returned this week and finished 5th overall, narrowly but beating his father who finished 6th.

  • 1st Mark Jackson, Rotherham
  • 2nd Willem v.d. Helm, Holland
  • 3rd John Roubos, Holland
  • 4th Trevor Lovell, Bourne
  • 5th Josh Smith
  • 6th Richard Smith

Thanks must go to Eileen and Pat and all the staff at O’Callaghans Bar for the sponsorship and looking after everyone so well during the week.
Thanks also go to organisers Mike Stone, Peter Turner, Kevin Gray and Pat Falvey who ensured the smooth running of the event.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for the Vintners Cup 2018.
