Padraig Carroll reports on some old friends who think the midlands are back to their best:
And their back! Gerry, Kevin and Bob return to the midlands. Thirty years ago these three lads came across the water from Bristol to Ireland on holiday for their love of fishing. They had come every year until they stopped coming five years ago having had poor fishing the previous couple of years.

After chatting with the lads they told me the fishing is back near its best again with regular bags of 20 to 30lb of mixed coarse fish being caught with pole and feeder fished with maggot and groundbait on both the river Shannon and the Grand Canal.

The lads were here for eleven days and fished every day with great results and told me they would be returning next year. We hope that the fishing continues to improve so that anglers like Gerry, Kevin and Bob will see fit to keep catching that ferry for many years to come. See you next year lads!
