17 November: What a fantastic fishing at the 6th winter league outing last night. 19 anglers under a clear sky in beautiful conditions watching the shooting stars zoom over Arranmore Island. Beaches are in prime fishing mode now and the noise of flounder tails slapping on the sand was constant throughout the night…

Not a bad size at all, but it won’t wind best flat

Johnny hit the front early on with 9 counting (over 23cm) flounders in the first hour closely followed by Sean and Brian and Michael all on the fish with some lovely flounders to 38cm along with turbot to 25cm and dogfish with coleys to 41cm. Some big scores were counted up back at the van with Dungloe man Sean O Donnell enjoying a great evenings fishing of 12 quality flounder and turbot for 2nd place overall prize (€57). First place with 16 counting flounders a great fishing for Johnny Byrne (€114) and longest fish prize a 41cm Coley for Daragh McGuinness (€57). Well done to all who took part.

One of the rarer Donegal bay shore catches that was caught by club member Ronan a while back. That’s a nice one on the species list – lumpsucker
