Stefan Martin reports from Mullaghmore, where the Killybegs Mariners fished the 7th leg of their winter league…

Winter League outing number 7 took us across to the south shores of the bay and the adrenaline junkies paradise of famous big wave surf venue Mullaghmore. A stunning venue and credit to the lads choosing the beaches this time of year; finding a sheltered beach with no weed is not easy and it was a pleasure to fish.

First cast of the night saw a nice 35cm coley for Stefan set the mark and the lads at each end of the beach were finding some counting flounders through the masses of undersize coleys. Most of the 15 anglers had counting coleys and flounders including a nice 36cm flounder for Darren which the lads laughed was his pet Francis the flounder again that he whistles ashore during competitions. John and Pat were on the fish furthest over the beach but near the road section Cormac was on a good fishing also.
Back at the van and scores between the top 4 were very close with one fish points separating. Longest fish money prize was won by Darren Rawdon with a 36cm Francis. 2nd place money was won by Cormac Burke and the winner with most points was John Cunningham with a fine fishing of coley and flounders. Well done to all.
