Dan O’Neill at the Mount Juliet Estate reports on the trout fishing on the Nore…

We had 4 anglers on the fishery on Saturday. We had decent water with the meter reading 92. Despite the improvement in the weather there were no hatches about and all the fish taken were caught on nymph.

The tally at the end of their session was 12 trout and 15 salmon smolts.

With the smolts running its important do everything you can to get these guys off to sea in good shape, so fishing barbless makes sense until the run is over. It important to make sure you wet hour hands if you have handle them during the release as they are delicate little fellows and you want to avoid any scale loss.
