Tom Collins reports from Union Hall in West Cork:

Our Dutch guests have had some good fishing this week; some good sized ling from the wrecks, bull huss, porgies, skate and some nice blues bringing their species total to 18 for their visit.

190lb common skate for Ab………
…….and a bull huss to bring the species total to 18

We had a 190lb common skate on Sunday and on Saturday we had ten blues, one porbeagle and a surprise catch and a first for Loch an Iasc – a sunfish caught on a lure! Tom reports on this fantastic capture:

Mike cast a jighead with jelly worm lure just ahead of the sunfish. The sunfish went straight for it engulfing the lure. I always believed that sunfish ate jelly fish but they are equipped with a mouth and teeth that would be well suited to crushing shellfish. First on our boat but put up a cracking fight and was returned after taking this photo and cleaning some of the lice from its skin’.

The lure caught sunfish

Other notable catches included a mini porbeagle and a not so mini blue or two.

A wee porgie
Big blues
