The weather up to now has made fishing difficult, but Luke Aston, who skippers the Clare Dragoon out of Carrigaholt, is lucky to have the option of more sheltered fishing in the Shannon Estuary. On days when they can’t get offshore, this provides great fishing for tope, bull huss and ray. Earlier this week, a couple of trips in the estuary provided a nice mix of species, including the above, and even a couple of spotted ray.

As the weather eased, offshore trips were more [possible, and a good mix of whitefish species were caught on the reefs, as well as many spurdog into high double figures.

And another one!
