Mick ‘the Fish’ Flanagan of Midlands Angling & Shooting might spend much of his fishing time on the midland loughs these days, but he hasn’t forgotten his roots. This week, Mick took to the Royal Canal with his light spinning rod, some spinners and a selection of small paddle tail lures.

It was a soft day, but the fishing wasn’t hard for Mick, as he caught fish after fish – both perch and jack pike – until he lost count altogether. Mick reckons that the canal is stuffed with fish and, despite the stretches of floating weed making some of the fishing tricky, he had a magical day while fishing from dry land for a change.
