2/8/2023 Local Gillie, Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com, reports that the Waterville Fishery had a good flood late last night and early this morning. On the C&R river Inny sadly I have no reports from the Inny Farmer and for good reason, I was talking to the Inny Farmer in Killarney late this morning and his quote of the day, you will have no reports from the Inny Farmer in tonight’s report. So back to Lough Currane, it was all quiet on the SW front. Wind NNW light to fresh and overcast followed by showers.

3/8/2023 Straight to the North shore and out from the Bungalow was Mr. Eugene Ferris of Tralee while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught one Sea Trout on the fly, for the rest of the Currane anglers it was quiet going by my WhatsApp. Wind North light, followed by good cloud cover for most of the day.

Wind was all over the place from NW to the South and veered back into the SW. Wind directions were from 9am to 5pm. And overcast amount of rainfall will be in tomorrow night’s notes.

5/8/2023 Currane fly angler Mr. John Burton of Co. Clare, C&R a fine 2 lbs. Sea Trout while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com and for the rest of the Currane anglers they were all quiet or were they? or did they have their Inny C&R hats on? As promised on the rainfall yesterday there wasn’t a great amount but just for the record there was 14.8 mm recorded, as I always say, one has to consider the amount of mountainous rainfall which isn’t recorded. I will let you anglers spin that one for yourselves. Wind NNW fresh followed by a few showers.

6/8/2023 The Currane anglers were all quiet this day, reports local Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com with just four boats out on this Bank Holiday weekend, now quote of the day goes to Mr Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com I text Neil were you out, Neil replied A day of rest. Sea Trout – Catch and release only

Inland Fisheries Ireland wishes to remind anglers that the Conservation of Sea Trout (No.7 or Kerry District) Waterville Area Bye-Law No. 971 of 2019 remains in effect. This Bye-law prohibits the retention and possession of any sea trout (Salmo trutta L.) taken by any fishing engine or by rod and line in the Waterville area i.e. that part of the sea eastward of a line drawn from the most westerly point of Bolus Head to the most westerly point of Lamb’s Head and to all the waters discharging in to it.

The Bye-Law mainly affects seatrout fishing on :-

  • the river Inny (Knockmoyle) and its tributaries
  • the waters of the Waterville system, including the Waterville River, Lough Currane, the Cummeragh River and all their tributary rivers and lakes
  • the waters of Ballinskelligs Bay

FLEKSI

A new online survey has been developed by IFI for the Currane catchment to gather anglers’ knowledge – the survey method called FLEKSI was developed by IFI to help give an insight into the status of the fishery.Β Currane Anglers are needed for Citizen Science survey to examine fish stocks
