Steve Schreck reports on a good week on the River Moy.
Last week gave a very positive outlook for things to come, as catch figures on the Moy catchment more than doubled, with 47 salmon reported caught, compared to the 21 salmon the week before. Water levels at Ballylahan bridge on Monday topped the 1m mark, steadily dropping over the following two days, to even out at around 0.5m towards the end of the week.
Ballina Salmon Anglers reported 4 salmon for the week, 1 on the spinner and 3 on the worm (3.5lbs, 5lbs, 5.5lbs and 6lbs).
Armstrong Fishery recorded 5 salmon for the week, caught on shrimp, worm and spinner, with the best fish weighing in at 12lbs.
Gannon’s Fishery had one salmon, caught on a spinner (6lbs).
The Foxford Fishery reported 1 fish caught and released on the prawn (9lbs).
Foxford Salmon Anglers had a good week, reporting 10 fish, mostly caught on spinners.
Cloongee Fishery reported 2 salmon for the week caught spinning (9lbs & 10.5lbs).
East Mayo Anglers recorded 24 salmon for the week (10 released), 6 fish on the spinner, 13 on the fly and 5 on the worm. Eight of the salmon were double figure fish.
