Steve Schreck reports from the River Moy…

Angling Report week ending 06/08/2023

With continuous rain, high and coloured water over the last week, it was an unusually quiet week on the Moy catchment for this time of year and some beats only saw a fraction of the anglers that would normally be out and about. In total 106 salmon have been reported caught. Similar to the week before last, water levels at Ballylahan Bridge never settled to a desirable height after several rises between 1.5m and 2.5m.

The Moy Fishery recorded 2 salmon of about 4lbs, one on the Ridge Pool and one on the Freshwater Beat, which was released.

Ballina Salmon Anglers reported 18 salmon for the week, weighing between 3lbs and 6lbs.

Mount Falcon recorded 12 fish, one of which was a fresh 10lbs multi sea winter fish.

Knockmore Salmon Anglers reported 2 salmon caught on the worm in Paddens, both 4lbs.

Attymass Angling Club recorded 2 fish on the worm, weighing 3lbs and 4lbs.

Coolcronan Fishery reported 6 salmon for the week.

Byrne’s Fishery recorded 4 salmon caught for the week,

Gannon’s Fishery reported 8 salmon all in the region of 4 lbs.

The Foxford Fishery recorded 5 salmon caught for the week.

Foxford Salmon Anglers had 25 salmon for the week.

Local reports from the Foxford Rocks Fishery suggest that 4 salmon were caught.

Cloongee Fishery reported 3 salmon for the week 3.5lbs, 4.5lbs and 5lbs of which two released.

East Mayo Anglers reported 15 salmon for the week, 6 of which were released. The most successful methods were spinning, followed by flyfishing.

On a different note, for interested parents and children, East Mayo Anglers are hosting a Youth Angling Event on the 16th of August to invite and inspire the next generation of anglers. The event runs from 6pm to 8pm at the Disabled Anglers Facility F26 DW72 and booking is advised.  Enquires can be made by contacting +353 (0)86 3946837 and IFI staff will be on site to discuss and answer questions in relation to fisheries management, development and protection.
