Silver Dawn skipper Dave Edwards reports on the recent fishing down in West Cork…
14 June: Fishing has been good inshore over the last few days with plenty of good Pollack and many other species showing. Mario had a superb, specimen sized Pouting amongst his catch yesterday.
Offshore shark fishing is also plenty of Blues coming to Silver Dawn.
The offshore wrecks were more difficult on our last visit as red algae was thick 50 miles south, resulting in smaller than usual catches. There was one specimen Ling landed, a 1.31 metres beauty and the crew worked hard to ensure a few more decent fish came up from the depths.
Hopefully the algae doesn’t build and spread inshore over the coming weeks.
12 June: A brilliant day, catching and releasing Blue Sharks. The highlight for me was the superb wildlife offshore this afternoon. A brief Humpback along with Minkes, Bottlenose Dolphins and Risso’s Dolphins was all the more amazing, when a pair of notoriously shy, deep water, Risso’s, stayed alongside Silver Dawn for several hours while approximately 20 more fed within sight of us.
