Its been a tough week in Wicklow for Kit Dunne of Wicklow Boat Charters, with winds making things tricky offshore, but local knowledge and persistence meant that the fishing still came good despite the conditions.

Kit reckons that the Tope fishing is still very good at the moment with plenty of pack and young tope about, but with big fish still coming too. Kit himself managed a fine Specimen Tope of 162cm long which was tagged and released on a University College Cork tagging project.

Skipper Kit had a fine Specimen Tope while on a tagging exercise with UCC scientists.

Tony Dunne’s Pike crew had a few fine Pack Tope and a lot of missed fish. The guys were working with frozen bait, and skipper Kit thought that that was the reason why the tope were being fussy. The crew also made a few firsts with smooth hounds.

The Wicklow Bay Sea Angling Club Youth coaching trip went really well considering the strong winds that the young anglers had to contend with. Everyone got some fish on the day, with Mackerel, Pollock and Ballan Wrasse all coming aboard while fishing tight to shore.
