Pete Davis of West Cork and District SAC put together this great report of their recent club matches at Bantry Airstrip and Ferrypoint:

The club’s two latest competition’s were held at Bantry Airstrip and Ferrypoint.

The Airstrip is always capable of throwing up a few decent fish and luckily it did for us on the day.

The competition winner was Troy Francis helped along with a nice double shot of ray, The winning card had a mixture of Thornback ray’s and Dogfish Barry O Rourke had similar in second place and Jp Molloy was third on the day.

Ferrypoint was used as a backup venue for our original fixture on Ballyquin, unfortunately due to high winds the beach was unsafe to fish.

It was a very tight fought competition, JP lead the way going into the last hour but Troy finished very strong with a nice triple shot of dogs, a 53cm bass and another dog to get the win. Well done Troy a very good run of form lately keeps him on top of our Master Angler table.

All about West Cork and District SAC…

The club was formed on march 19th 2009, in the small picturesque harbour town of  Kinsale County Cork. We’re an inclusive club, this can be seen in our membership profile; from anglers who are new to match fishing all the way up to members of the Irish World Shore Team 2010, two of which are in the club! The club holds circa 10 competitions per year, members are encouraged to practice a catch and release policy in the interests of conservation.
