The Leinster Pike Anglers held their third winter league competition at a midlands river venue last weekend. It was a fine dry day, and the favourable weather may have helped encourage anglers as there was a decent turnout on the day.

For most shore-based pike competitions, particularly on rivers, a good double is normally enough to win the heavies fish award, but this time out, the magic 20lb mark was broken, as Jay Cooke landed a super fish that tipped the scales at 20lb 6oz.

It’s a cracker!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to see him in the placings, though, as Rodney Gaynor took that accolade with ten fish for 41lb 10oz.

Full results as follows:

Best Bags:
1st: Rodney Gaynor – 10 fish, totalling 41lb 10oz
2nd: Anthony Lennon – 11 fish, totalling 35lb 13oz
3rd: Jan Rutkowski – 14 fish, totaling 35lb
