Cormac Walsh of the Lure Fishing Podcast was chasing bass over the recent spring tides, although they were scarcer than usual. He did manage to find some though, with fishing under cover of darkness and a slower retrieve than normal – or even twitching the lure a couple of times and stopping the retrieve altogether – tempting the takes.
Cormac reckons that the persistent north east wind that prevailed during the period and the sustained high barometric pressure might have slowed things down.
When he did manage to get in amongst the fish, it was when the tide began to flood over rocky ground that they started to feed. Cormac has some go-to lures in the box and when you fish with confidence in your gear, you are more likely to get some takes.
Cormac is the host of the excellent Lure Fishing Podcast where, along with his expert guests, he discusses all things lure fishing, including tackle, tactics and angling insight. There is a main focus on bass fishing in Ireland, but other species and angling destinations are also covered – so don’t forget to check it out…
