David Norman reports from West Cork, and East Cork too…
I haven’t done many Bass trips so far this year and despite the hundreds of them I’ve caught over the years it still blows me away to see these beautiful creatures up close and personal, as with so many things in life, photos really can’t do them justice.
I worked pretty hard for the few fish of various sizes I got in beautiful weather last week before the low pressure system arrived and made it unsuitable for kayak fishing.
Looking forward to getting back out as soon as it clears…
Next up was Gavin Fitzmaurice who was out with me for 2 days at the weekend. Day 1 we managed to get some ideal conditions for his first ever kayak fishing trip and found some quality fish including this beautiful Ballan Wrasse, estimated at 4lbs+ that attacked a custom clear/glitter Pirate Lures Corsair Baitfish lure.
Day 2 we headed over to Richie Ryan in Cork Harbour for some boat/fly action. Having never handled a fly rod before and after some expert instruction from Richie, Gavin was on fire with 3 or 4 fish to the boat before I’d got my first and the action continued apace for the next 3 hrs despite the strong Northerly breeze. He even managed what we think was a surprise Scorpion Fish on the fly.
