It’s the time of year when we see shoals of mullet, some of them very big fish, cruising around harbours, channels and estuaries, and from now into autumn is the best time to target mullet. A hard-fighting fish, they are very wary and difficult to hook, but provide wonderful sport when you crack it and get them feeding.

The Irish Mullet Fishing facebook page is home to some of the best mullet anglers (fanatics?) in Ireland, and some of their catches feature below.

Danny Reilly had this beauty after 3 missed takes fishing bread on the surface. Possibly a new PB but he forgot the scales!
Nice plump 50cm plus Wexford Mullet for Alan Walsh
A specimen 57cm fish that took bread flake on the surface.

For anyone intending to target mullet, the Irish Mullet Fishing facebook page has links to some great instructional videos.

Another one we really like is this video from Irish Angling Adventures, where Ian demonstrates the float fishing technique very well.
