It is prime porbeagle shark season now, and skipper John Fleming has been putting his guests on the Brazen Hussy over some nice fish. Th crew from Wicklow Angling Club made the trip over at the weekend and they brought the weather with them. On a fine day they landed 4 porbeagle to the boat, including the fish of the day for 15-year-old Paddy. Kudos to Liam Markey for letting Paddy take the run on his rod and for heping him with playing the fish.
They also enjoyed some great species fishing, with some lovely grey, red and tub gurnards, a nice little megrim and a couple of dabs and pollock too.

The Brazen Hussy was out again during the week with varying results, Monday saw just one fish landed but Tuesday was a great fishing day. Despite fresher conditions and scarce bait, the crew were into fish straight away and ended up with 6 fish to the boat, and another 8 or 9 dropped runs that didn’t hook up.
Yesterday was another good day, with 4 porbeagle to the boat and a few more dropped. The catch included 2 smaller sharks and 2 good fish estimated around 200lbs. One of the smaller shark was brought aboard for measuring and tagging as part of the Marine Sport Fish Tagging Programme, a citizen science study supported by many charter skippers which provides valuable data on shark populations, life history and migration routes.
